Darren Preston Lane

Biography

Darren Preston "DP" Lane has been involved in TV / Film Productions since 1988. He has worked with industry professionals on many different levels and has been a consultant for several independent projects. Darren was introduced to the industry via the TV / Film productions that were going on in his native Florida. He always found productions to be fascinating and every chance he got he met with industry professionals. Since those early days Darren has logged thousands of studio hours in Radio and television productions. Notably Darren has been a Production Assistant, for America's Most Wanted, he has directed and produced several commercials and Public Service Announcements. He has also been an Assistant to the Producer for a national Gatoraid commercial.

Darren has a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from the University of Florida and a Masters of Business Administrations from Webster University.

Darren is a photographer, taking photographs for the U.S. Department of Interior and E! True Hollywood Story. Darren has also been a director for both stage and TV (commercials and documentaries).

Qualifications

Darren has worked in Radio / Film / Television Productions since 1988 and is well versed in multiple applications including: ENG, documentary, studio and "live news" shooting. He has used many camera configurations including Beta Cam / SP, HD, DVCAM and DVCPRO camera systems. Experienced in MS Word and Excel. Darren works with both non-linear and linear editing platforms including: AVID Xpress 3.5, Media 100, Stratosphere (PC based) Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premier.

Darren supervised new employees in studio productions, produced special projects and edited weekly syndicated promotions on various non-linear platforms including: AVID Xpress DV 3.5, Media 100 and Stratosphere. He performed under deadline and utilized problem solving techniques for better streamlining of daily tasks.

In between jobs Darren has held a steady job managing a photo lab. His MBA has allowed him to keep the photo lab profitable by keeping overhead costs low. He uses the same techniques to keep productions on budget and on schedule.

Freelance Producer / Writer / Photographer, 1992-Present

Darren creates business proposals for pre / post productions and includes a cost analysis for summarizing budgets with Excel, MS Word and Office. Writing skills include: press releases, publicity writing and interoffice memos. Assisted on local and national commercials as well as in-flight / helicopter and skydiving photography. Jobs also included pre-visualization on several underwater photo-shoots, industrial videos, national shows and contract work. Used lighting techniques to enhance the visual presentation of state and local commercials, news events and television shows and documentaries. Darren has used 16mm, 35mm motion picture film, HD, Beta Cam / SP, DVCAM and DVCPRO camera systems. Electronic imaging includes Photoshop and some knowledge of After Effects.
